WordPress vs GetDentalWebsite

WordPress or a managed website for a dental practice?

The short answer

WordPress is open source software that can run almost any kind of website, and many dental sites use it. The trade-off is that a WordPress site needs hosting, a theme, plugins and regular updates, and someone has to own that work and the security that comes with it. If you have a trusted web person who maintains it, WordPress is a sound choice. If the site has been left to drift, with old plugins and slow pages, a managed static site takes the upkeep off the practice completely.

Where WordPress shines

WordPress is free to download, licensed under the GPL, and has a vast ecosystem of themes and plugins. It can do almost anything, and plenty of developers know it. For a practice with an in-house marketer or a long-term developer who keeps it updated, that flexibility is valuable.

Where dental WordPress sites usually struggle

The flexibility comes with moving parts. A typical practice site has a theme, a page builder, a forms plugin, an SEO plugin, a gallery and a few scripts, each updated on its own schedule. Skip updates and the site becomes a security risk; add too much and it slows down on phones. The practice rarely sees this until a patient mentions the page will not load. Our sites are static pages with no database or admin login, so there is nothing to patch and far less to slow down.

Twelve things that decide whether a practice website books patients and stays that way. Where we describe WordPress, we keep to what is generally true or what the provider documents.

Be honest

When WordPress is the better fit

  • You have a developer or marketer who maintains WordPress and keeps it updated.
  • You need a custom feature only a specific plugin provides.
  • You want to edit every page yourself in a familiar admin.

Where we win

When a managed dental website is the better fit

  • Nobody at the practice wants to think about plugins, updates or hosting again.
  • Your current site is slow on phones and nobody knows why.
  • You want one monthly fee instead of hosting, plugin and developer bills.
  • You want changes made for you within a stated turnaround.

Most WordPress dental sites move cleanly if every URL is mapped first.

  1. We crawl your current WordPress site and list every page and post.

  2. Each old URL is mapped to its new page and redirected at launch.

  3. Blog posts you want to keep are carried over; thin or outdated ones are merged or retired with a redirect.

  4. Your domain and email stay where they are; only the website moves.

Questions about WordPress and GetDentalWebsite

Is WordPress bad for a dental practice?

No. WordPress is capable and widely used. The question is whether someone will keep its hosting, theme and plugins updated and the site fast. If yes, it can serve a practice well.

Why are so many dental WordPress sites slow?

Usually because of accumulated plugins, page builders, large images and third-party scripts, often on shared hosting. None of that is WordPress's fault alone, but someone has to manage it.

Will we lose our blog posts if we leave WordPress?

No. We carry over the posts worth keeping and redirect every old URL, so links and rankings follow the content to the new site.

Can we still log in and edit pages ourselves?

There is no admin to log in to. You request changes from your client portal and we make them within the stated turnaround, with five revisions a month included.

Is a static site more secure than WordPress?

A static site has no database, no admin login and no plugins to exploit, so those routes of attack do not exist on it. It is still hosted with SSL, security headers and monitoring.

What happens to our WordPress hosting account?

Once the new site is live and redirects are working, you can cancel the old hosting. Keep your domain and email where they are; we point the domain at the new site.

Can the new site do everything our WordPress plugins did?

For a practice site, usually yes: forms, galleries, maps, reviews and FAQs are built in. Tell us about any unusual plugin on the demo call and we will say plainly whether it fits.

How much does moving cost?

The same as any new plan: from $137 a month, with the $797 build fee invoiced only after launch. The move and redirects are part of the build.
